Doolittle Farm: Growing Organic, Premium Horse Hay
Hay is a fundamental building block of your horse's diet, but low-quality hay will not meet a horse's nutritional needs. Doolittle Farm combines a love of horses, an understanding of equine nutrition, and good Texas Hill Country soil to produce premium horse-quality hay to supplement forage-based diets or to provide the primary feed for stabled horses.
Doolittle Farm is located just outside San Antonio in the lush Texas Hill Country on the eastern edge of the Edwards Plateau, a region covering south-central Texas and dominated by the southern-most grasslands of the Great Plains. The region enjoys a long growing season, and, with adequate rain, Doolittle begins harvesting as early as March or April and continues as late as October or November.
Doolittle Farms uses organic farming methods (no chemical fertilizers or herbicides) along with meticulous attention to the maturity each crop of Coastal Bermuda grass. Doolittle's hay is harvested prior to the grass reaching full maturity and is cut during the height of afternoon photosynthesis, preserving maximum nutritional benefit. Properly dried and quickly baled, the result is soft, green hay with excellent protein content.
